Todd Durrant's Contributions to CD Releases

Since I've worked my entire career in the music industry, I thought I'd list a few of my contributions to CD releases.  The works listed here are those which are more specifically artistic.  However, I've contributed to many more CD releases through the years as "executive producer".  That means that I helped to plan, coordinate, and finance the production of many albums, singles, compilations, etc., seeing them through from conception to the store shelves.  But that's all "behind-the-scenes" stuff that most people don't notice.   With these listed releases, I contributed as a co-musician, or a remixer (meaning, I remake the music using the artists' original vocals and melody), or as a song-writer / lyricist.

"Her Deepest Sleep" CD by Faith Assembly
This was the first remix I produced, and I was very new at it.  Though I'd written and recorded my own music, and done some remixing projects throughout my youth and during school, just for fun, this was the first one I worked on for an actual CD release.  I working on it with Adam Sorensen in his home studio.  Though I think some of the ideas were good, our tools and abilities were lacking and it didn't sound as nice as I'd hoped-- came out sounding "muffled" on the CD.  Still, it was a decent start.  The remix was for the "Her Deepest Sleep" CD single by Faith Assembly, and the song I mixed was "Redemption (Exhaulted Mix)".   It was released in 1996 by A Different Drum.

You can visit Faith Assembly's homepage by clicking here.

On this compilation CD called "Synth-Pop: The Next Generation", I worked together with a friend named Adam Sorensen to re-record an old song I'd written in the 80's as a teenager.  The song was released under the band name Saudade (or as the variation, Saudades).  The CD was released in 1997 by Strangers Thoughts Records and has been out-of-print for several years.  You can visit this Myspace page for Saudade if you want to hear my questionable singing abilities:

www.myspace.com/saudadesongs

The song on this CD is called: "Tender Heart Attack"

"Synth-Pop The Next Generation" CD

I worked together with my friend Jaren Tolman to produce a track for this CD called, "The Greatest Commandments - A Tribute to Camouflage".  It was released in 1998 by Synthphony Records.  Camouflage is from Germany and is a band I much admire, so it was fun to do a completely different take on one of their old songs for this tribute release.  Jaren and I took the challenging approach of changing a song originally written in 3/4 time, and programing a new version in 4/4 time.  I sung the vocals.  The song was contributed under the band name, Saudade.

The song on this CD is called: "I Once Had a Dream"

"The Greatest Commandments" CD

I contributed a song to this compilation CD called "United Synthpop of America Volume 1" which is now out-of-print.  It was released in 1998 by Synthphony Records.  I wrote the song, co-produced the music with Jaren Tolman, and also did the vocals.  The song was credited to the band name "Saudade" which I've used on several projects.   You can visit a Myspace page for Saudade here:

www.myspace.com/saudadesongs

The song on this CD is called: "Seeing this World"

"United Synthpop of America Vol. 1" CD
"Visionary" CD by Cosmicity

This CD single of "Visionary" by Cosmicity features one of the first, old-school extended versions I produced, together with Jaren Tolman of Atomix Sound.  I worked with all the original tracks from the band's original version, then just made it longer, spotlighting different elements along the way, like the old extended versions of the 80's.   The CD was released in 1997 by A Different Drum.

I mixed track 5: "Visionary (Extended Mix)"

"One Roman Choir" by Kiethevez
I produced the extended version remix on this CD single for "One Roman Choir" by the band Kiethevez.  I used the studio of my friend Jaren Tolman (Atomix Sound). The CD was released in 1998 by A Different Drum.

The track I produced is called: "One Roman Choir (Holier Mix)"

Visit the Kiethevez homepage by clicking here.

"Alternate Faith" CD by Neuropa

Neuropa is a band that I've admired through the years, always creating catchy, fun, old-school synthpop.  I thought they'd be a perfect fit for a few old-fashioned, extended versions.  On this remix collection called "Alternate Faith", I worked with with Jaren Tolman at Atomix Sound to make three long versions of songs from the band's first two albums.   The CD was released in 2000 by A Different Drum.

These are the extended versions I helped make:
When Daylight Falls
Edge of Now
Love Will Find a Way

Visit Neuropa's homepage by clicking here.

On this release I produced another extended version, where I pushed myself even further, trying to turn what I felt was an epic song into a much longer (but not too boring) version.  The song, called "On Your Own" was extended and included on this CD "The White Room" by the band Moulin Noir.  It was released in 2001 by A Different Drum.

The song I produced was track 15:  "On Your Own (Reprise)"

Visit the Moulin Noir homepage by clicking here.

"The White Room" by Moulin Noir
"A New Frontier" CD by Moulin Noir
Having had so much fun with the previous Moulin Noir release, I ended up doing two remixes on the next single by the band, "A New Frontier".  I made one old-fashioned extended version, and then another modern mix which only uses the vocals and completely rebuilds the music.  The CD single was released in 2002 by A Different Drum.

I mixed the tracks:
A New Frontier (Lo-Fi Disco Mix)
A New Frontier (Extended Mix)

You can visit the homepage for Moulin Noir by clicking here.

This single called "Wide Awake" was the first time I collaborated with DJ Ram from Russian on his project.  I made a remix for a mellow, gloomy track that features guest vocals by Nate Nicoll of B! Machine.  The song that I remixed is called "A Voice (Broken Mix)".  This CD was released in 2002 by A Different Drum.

Visit DJ Ram's homepage by clicking here.

"Wide Awake" CD by Virtual Server
"Indigent" by Leiahdorus

I produced the remix on the "Indigent" CD single by Leiahdorus.   I really enjoyed making this mix, taking on the challenge of making a really good song into a clubby version.  Maybe I succeeded, maybe I didn't, but I enjoyed the experience.  It was released in 2002 by A Different Drum.

The track I remixed was:  "Indigent (Dare to Dance Mix)"

Visit Leiahdorus' homepage by clicking here.

I made a remix for the song "Cherry" on the limited edition 2CD version of "Sundown" by System22 (the limited edition with my remix is sold-out).   I decided to focus primarily on drums and bass on this particular project, trying to create a very clubby, and kind of "old-school" Nitzer Ebb rhythm.  It was fun to try, since Chrissy's vocals aren't typically accompanied that way.  The 2CD was released in 2002 by A Different Drum.

The song I remixed is called:  "Cherry (Old School Stomp Mix)"

Visit System22's homepage by clicking here.

"Sundown" CD by System22
This release called "A Day Like This" by Moon Rock features two remixes that I produced.  I set out to make only one, but had a good time with it, so I ended up making two.  I was surprised that the band used both on the release, put out in 2003 by Lunar Entertainment.

The two tracks I mixed were:
See a Lot (More Myrrh Mix)
See a Lot (Frankincense Mix)

"A Day Like This" CD by Moon Rock
I produced two remixes on this CD single for "Fall Awake" by The Echoing Green.   It was released in 2003 by A Different Drum.  I'm not particularly sure how one of them got on the CD, since it was made as a joke, but I suppose Joey from the band is such a good friend that he thought he'd pop it on there anyway.

I did the remixes for "Little Drummer Boy (Dance Mix)" and "Little Drummer Boy (Little Gothgirl Mix)"

Click here to visit the homepage for The Echoing Green.

"Fall Awake" by The Echoing Green
I wrote the song called "My Wandering Mind" which is performed on this compilation CD by the German band, Wave In Head.  The song was written in about 1991 while I was in college, and was interpreted here in 2004 since Michael from the band liked the basic ideas in my old demo recording.  This compilation is called "Synthpop for a Darkened Room 2" and is part of an ongoing series which spotlights the lighter, more romantic or melancholy side of synthpop.

"Synthpop for a Darkened Room vol. 2" CD

I produced a remix for this "Forget" CD single by B! Machine.  I tried to keep the remix within the somewhat minimal synth approach that the band typically uses, so it wouldn't seem out-of-print among all the other tracks which are produced by the band themselves.  The track I remixed is "(not) Girlfriend (Boyfriend's Mix)".   The CD single was released in 2005 by A Different Drum.

"Energize" CD by RENAME
My friend Marcus from the German band Rename listened to a few of my old songs from my teenage years in the 80's and decided to remake two of them in his own style.  The two songs, "Oh Please" and "But Now" ended up on Rename's album "Energize".  I have to admit that Marcus does a much better job of singing my old songs than I ever did.  This album was released in 2006 by A Different Drum.

See Rename's homepage here.

I already mentioned this album by Rename, but there is also a limited 2CD edition which features a collection of remixes.  I had the pleasure of remixing the song "But Now", which was originally my song, now remade by Rename.  So, I restructured the music in the version called "But Now (Isolation Mix)".
"Energize LTD" CD by RENAME

Capsize is a band I really enjoy for the singer's unique voice and lyrical approach.  I was happy to produce a remix for the limited edition of the album "A Perfect Wreck", to be included on the bonus disc.  The remix I made is "Relent Agrees (Relentless Mix)".   I think the mix came out sounding a bit strange, and I wish I had taken a more traditional approach, but sometimes I get busy and start having so much fun making things sound "different" than I forget to make it sound accessible.  Still, I think this album is one of the most overlooked in the synthpop scene-- such a gem.  It was released in 2006 by A Different Drum.

"A Perfect Wreck LTD" 2CD by Capsize
"Soft" CD by NEVARAKKA
This is the CD album "Soft" by the Swedish band Nevarakka.  I helped to write some of the songs on this album, using ideas formulated by the key band member, Phillip.  He would present me with the music and a general song topic or story, then I would turn it into a song.  It's probably the most "poppy" style I've tried.  The CD was released in 2006 by A Different Drum.

The songs I wrote or co-wrote are:

"Desire"
"Summer Girl"
"Close the Door"

Click here to visit the homepage for Nevarakka.

I wrote the song and melody "Desperate Man" for this album by Virtual Server.  It was released in 2007 by A Different Drum.  The music was produced by DJ Ram from Russia (he is the creative force behind Virtual Server).  The guy who sang the song is Pal-Magnus from the band Echo Image, doing guest vocals.

Click here to see the homepage for producer, DJ Ram.

"Setup" CD by Virtual Server
"Setup LTD" by Virtual Server

I also contributed to the limited edition 2CD release "Setup LTD" by remixing the song that I wrote.  The bonus disc features the track, "Desperate Man (Desperate Mix)" which I produced (wrote song, re-constructed the music).  It was also released in 2007 by A Different Drum.

"Dos LTD" by Ultraviolet

I contributed a remix to the limited edition bonus disc on this "Dos LTD" 2CD by Ultraviolet.  The track I remixed is called "Colder (Hibernation Mix)".  It was released in 2007 by A Different Drum.

Click here to visit the homepage for Ultraviolet.

"The Disco and the What Not" (limited 2CD) by Rupesh Cartel
I produced a remix with a little help from Marcus of Rename for the limited bonus disc on the release of "The Disco and the What Not" by Rupesh Cartel.   I had to do the remix because I loved the song from the moment I heard the demo.  My remix went through a few changes along the way, and I'm not sure I liked the final version as much as a couple earlier ones, but the songs is still so good that it's hard to mess it up.  The 2CD was released in 2007 by A Different Drum in the USA (licensed from Megahype Records in Sweden).

The track I mixed is:  "About Denial (ADD Club Dub)"

Visit the homepage for Rupesh Cartel by clicking here.

I loved this song the first time I heard it, so it was a real pleasure to produce a remix for the "Sing This Song" CD single by Fantazja.  It was released in 2007 by A Different Drum.  My remix is called "Sing This Song (Serenade)".

Visit the homepage for Fantazja here.

"Incoming - Special Edition" 2CD by Blue October UK
The "Incoming" album by Blue October UK was originally released in 1997, and this new double-disc edition was released to mark the album's 10th anniversary.  The bonus disc included several previously unreleased remixes and demos, along with some old favorite tracks from out-of-print singles. I produced the first track for the bonus disc, a new version of the title song.  My remix is called "Incoming (Duck for Cover)".   The 2CD was released by A Different Drum in 2007.

After working together on the "Energize" album, Marcus from the band Rename and I ended up taking it to the next level on this CD called "First Bounce" released in 2007 by A Different Drum.   I wrote the lyrics for two new songs, "Who Needs the World" and "Hey Cowboy" (which was written as a joke, but Marcus became fond of it).  I also had an instrumental track I'd recorded that ended up being used as on introduction, with a combination of vocals by Marcus and I.  I also contributed vocals to "Hey Cowboy".  The song "Oh Please" (here it is remixed) was also written by me many years ago.  Aside from the song writing, I also contributed several remixes to this release:  "Maybe Later I Will Dance All Night", "I Have No Choice Anymore", "Maybe Later I'll Have No Choice", "Who Needs the World (Not Me)", and "Hey Cowboy (Boot Scoot Boogie)".   It's probably the closest I've come to being a member of the band, as far as a release is concerned.

A Different Mix Volume 6

This is a very exciting CD for me.  In includes eight remixes that I made for different bands which were not released in other places.  That means that I remade the music in these tracks, just using the band's original songs and vocals.  I put a lot of work into the production on this CD, trying to show some different styles and sounds in each track.  Plus, there is an extra track for "Bad Dreams" which, of course, is my own song under the name SAUDADE.

Behold!  My first solo release, featuring two of my own songs performed by myself, plus two remixes from my good friend Marcus of Rename!  More than 20 years after making the original versions in the basement of my family home, I have my own CD in the market!
Buy it as a CD, or buy the downloads.

Disreflect "Rest" CD single
I contributed to this CD maxi-single by the cool German band DISREFLECT with a couple of tracks.  I produced the remix called "Rest (Eulogy)", and co-produced the version called "Rest (Club Version)".   I also made a music video together with my son Dylan (he's the camera man), which you can watch on Youtube.

This is my second CD in my Saudade project.  This one again focuses on songs that are remakes of old tracks I originally wrote as a teenager.   All of these songs are also unique to this single release and won't appear (at least in the same versions) on a later album.  The single is also available digitally from Amazon.com, iTunes, and many other places.
Like You CD by Saudade
PURE CD by Endless Shame
I made one of the remixes on this single by Endless Shame.   Mine is called "Pure (Chlorinated)" and is an uptempo dance version of the song.
